dogs FOSTER TO ADOPT

D.O.G. now Murphy

D.O.G. now Murphy

HELP  “D.O.G. - the dog”. I was contacted by a foster rescue about D.O.G.. "D.O.G. is losing weight to the tune of about 5 pounds per month, vomiting &  diarrhea". Prior blood work and x-rays were done and a tumor was suspected. I wanted to bring D.O.G. up to Prescott to get the remainder of his medical work and a diagnosis. A band of determined women got together and arranged a relay transport to Prescott.  Once arriving in Prescott, he had an ultrasound and  D.O.G. had a mass in his abdomen which was causing a blockage in his intestines. It could be cancer or it could be benign. We won’t know unless they go in and take a look. D.O.G. is only eight years old at the most, feels great, has a great disposition and is a happy guy. After some discussion, we decided that D.O.G. deserves a chance.  I accompanied him into surgery performed by Dr. Joy at Harmony Vet Care. D.O.G. had a "resection" of his intestines removing the large growth that unfortunately tuned out to be cancer. He also tested positive for heartworm. We are beefing up his immune system to keep the cancer at bay and treating him via the slow kill method for heartworm. He’s going to live out his best days here at Dogtree Pines and will be spoiled every day knowing that his time is limited. D.O.G. has gained substantial weight and is living his best life at Dogtree Pines.

Shasta

Shasta came to us from a family with medical problems that could no longer keep her. Maven was said to be a black lab (her pics looked like it too) but when we arrived she was more Great Dane than lab.  That's ok! Shasta needed us and we were going to help. Raven had the WORST dental disease and grumpy because of it. She also had some pretty severely arthritic knees. Raven got the dental she needed and also received PRP (Platlet Rich Plasma) in her knees. She is feeling like a million bucks and loves her new foster Mark. He even takes her walking at the courthouse square.  Yay for Shasta!

Shasta is fostered by Volunteer Mark.

Sherman

Sherman

This is Sherman. He is a 14-year-old purebred lab that was used as a duck  hunting dog in Texas until he lost vision in one of his eyes and was  discarded. In this area of Texas, they do not have animal control services so I will spare you the details on what is done with a dog that is called into the sheriff to be surrendered.  We were lucky enough to get a call from someone working with the Sheriff to place dogs from Texas. Sherman is now safe and sound at a wonderful foster home for the remainder of his life.

Edith

Sherman

10 year old, Edith, was found as a stray and brought to mcacc west about 2 weeks ago. She was rescued by my friend at Dogtree Pines: Senior Dog Sanctuary❤️…and thank God.
Edith was adoptable per the shelter. Cindy picked her up this morning and headed right to the vet.
This is the reality…

“She has a huge spleen, a mass, completely rotten teeth, multiple bloody and pussy mouth absesses, Cushing’s most likely, a UTI, and double ear infections. The blood work should be back soon.”
She had been urinating and defecating on herself, and she collapsed in one of the play yards. She also was not eating very much and panting excessively. Now we know why…

She will be in great care with this wonderful sanctuary, but they will need our help with her treatment.

Sweet Georgia Brown

On Monday, 3/31, I was handling out enrichment at East back in the stray hold area & saw this sweet senior lady come in / get escorted into a kennel.

I came back on Wednesday to hand out enrichment again & noticed her in the A-Wing, so I took a picture of her kennel # & looked her up.

I found out that she was an owner surrender.

Her owner had her for about 10 years, but is moving into a 55+ that doesn't allow dogs.

I wasn't going to go to the shelter today, but it was (kind of) on my way home from errands so I stopped in to be with her.

She's a bit hard of hearing, I don't believe her vision is 100%, she's missing some hair, her nails are pretty dang long, & her 2 hind legs are a bit weak, but MAN.. she is SWEET.

She seemed a bit scared of the barking dogs. She deserves for however long she has left, but we aren't in a place to do so.

Hey, I’m Ernie.

I  was just a stray trying to survive… until a kind human let me inside and gave me a place to crash for a bit. They said I was friendly —  because I am!

Now  I’m at the shelter, and honestly? I’m not doing great. I came in  emaciated, with white eye discharge, and I’m having a hard time walking.  Turns out I have Valley Fever, which can be managed with meds and love,  but I really need out of here if I’m going to have a shot at recovery.

The  staff says I’ve been soft and sweet — I allowed them to carry me,  tolerated all handling, and took treats gently, even stretched my neck  out just to get a little nibble when I couldn’t stand up.

I  don’t want to give up. I want to get better. But I need a foster willing to help me fight, and some pledges to support my care.
